Career Connections

Career Connections is an event hosted each spring by Exploratory Studies at NC State for our students, who are first-year students undecided on the major and career they want to pursue. We recruit working professionals from various fields to serve on panels and share their educational and career journeys with our students. If you or someone you know might be a good addition to one of our panels, please complete this Google Form. Our committee will review the recommendations and reach out to the individuals we think would provide a comprehensive and diverse perspective on one of the panels.

NOTE: We try to prioritize and recruit panelists that represent career fields that many of our students are interested in. We seek recommendations for panelists from many different sources, so please understand that while we appreciate any referrals we receive, we will not be able to accommodate all of them on our panels due to space and student interests. Our department may have other opportunities for engagement with students; please indicate interest in other programs on the form as well.

Panelists should have completed, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree and have some amount of work experience in the field they will represent. Unique paths to current positions are also interesting to our students.

Below is the list of professional areas we typically try to represent on our panels:

  • Engineering
  • Business
  • Sustainability, Natural Resources,and Agriculture
  • Medical and Health
  • Tourism, Sports, and Recreation
  • Law, Social Justice, and Community Outreach
  • Science and Research
  • Writing, Media, and Communication
  • Art & Design
  • Textile Technology and/or Management
  • Education, Counseling, and Human Services
  • Math, Statistics, and Technology

Our students particularly like to hear from panelists who are 1 to 5 years out from graduation, but appreciate more seasoned panelists as well.

We thank you for any contacts you can provide for us.
