Exploratory Studies Scholarship
The Deryle Daniels Memorial Scholarship acknowledges University College Exploratory Studies students’ commitment to serving their communities. Exploratory Studies students who demonstrate outstanding and effective leadership in service-related activities are encouraged to apply. Past recipients have shown that they have made significant impact in their local, national, and global communities. University College Exploratory Studies supports and encourages the continued engagement of service within the university community.
All University College Exploratory Studies students who apply for admission by the October 15 application deadline are eligible to apply. Only students who are accepted for admissions to University College Exploratory Studies by the January 30 notification date are eligible to receive the award.
Number of Awards
Three non-renewable $1,000 merit scholarships for fall admission only.
Scholarship awards will be granted after careful review, evaluation, and scoring by the University College Exploratory Studies Scholarship Selection Committee. Awards will be made on initiative taken to address a perceived need in the community or to improve an existing need; impact of the service on local, national, or global community; impact of service on personal growth learning and development; length of time commitment to service; and plans for continued commitment to service at NC State. The Scholarship Committee is comprised of University College Exploratory Studies staff and administrators, and campus partners.
Notifications are sent out by March 16. By March 15, scholarship payments are turned over to the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships to be applied to the recipient’s account.

Deryle Daniels Memorial Scholarship recipients are expected to participate in a service opportunity during the fall semester and to submit a profile and brief description of their experience with a service opportunity to the Scholarship Committee Chair to be highlighted on the University College Exploratory Studies website before the last day of classes. Service opportunities such as Service NC State, Volunteers in Parks, AnimalKind, Adopt a Highway, Build-A-Block, and many more opportunities that are available within the campus and local community are acceptable.
